Congressman Greene told a group of supporters on April 8 that some US lawmakers want the country to send troops to Ukraine.
The Republican congresswoman has previously criticized aid packages sent by President Joe Biden’s Democratic government to Ukraine in recent times.
She received a lot of criticism when speaking about this war, and was also one of those who opposed the proposal to transfer an additional 60 billion USD to Kiev from the end of last year, causing this plan to get stuck in parliament.
Ms. Greene said that the money earmarked for Ukraine should have been spent on domestic issues, including measures to increase security at the US-Mexico border.
`The war we have to fight is taking place on our own southern border. If we are going to go to war, we should fight the (criminal) cartels on the border because they are causing harm.`
In her speech, she also mentioned that US lawmakers seemed to be discussing sending troops to Ukraine.
`I have heard them whispering this in different meetings, they really want to send our uncles, cousins and sons to that battlefield, to Ukraine,` she said, vowing to prevent
She did not elaborate on this, for example who spoke and at what level the discussion was.
The female congresswoman affirmed that she wants peace for Ukraine, but believes that the US should not provide more aid to Ukraine.
Ms. Greene’s views faced many objections, including from Republicans.
Some lawmakers from the above party believe that Ms. Greene in particular and a group of US lawmakers in general have been influenced by the Kremlin’s propaganda messages.
Discussions of the West sending troops to Ukraine surfaced in late February after French President Emmanuel Macron said that any possibility to help Ukraine win could not be ruled out, including sending troops to Ukraine to participate.
The US later announced that President Joe Biden `has made it clear that the US will not send troops to fight in Ukraine`.
Meanwhile, National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said that the only US military personnel present in Ukraine are those present at the country’s embassy in Kiev to `do important work` on the issue.
When asked whether the country could send troops to Ukraine for other purposes such as training, US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said the Biden administration opposes any action to deploy troops to Ukraine.
`We will not send troops to Ukraine. The president has been very clear,` Mr. Miller told reporters.
After that, the Kremlin warned that conflict between Russia and NATO could not be avoided if member countries of this alliance sent troops to Ukraine.
