Bloomberg reported on April 11 that US officials said the possibility of the Ukrainian army collapsing `cannot be ruled out` and that Ukraine is at `the most fragile moment in more than two years of conflict`.
Bloomberg, citing information from negotiations with many officials, said that the main risk is the collapse of Ukraine’s defense system, which will create an opportunity for Russia to `open a major step forward for the first time since
Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said on April 12 that the Ukrainian government had allocated an additional 3.88 billion Hr (nearly 100 million USD) to build fortifications, mainly in the Kharkov and Sumy provinces, bordering Russia.
According to Bloomberg, Ukraine’s position on the battlefield has been weakened in recent months due to a serious shortage of ammunition.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky predicted in an interview with CBS News that a new large-scale Russian attack could take place in late May or June.
US General Christopher Cavoli said that Russia has sought to compensate for most of the battlefield losses in Ukraine and this process is happening at a much faster pace than expected.
A senior US general said that Russia’s current military size is even larger than before the conflict in Ukraine broke out.
Speaking before the US House Armed Services Committee on April 10, Mr. Christopher Cavoli, Commander of NATO forces in Europe, said: `Russia is re-establishing its forces much faster than our initial estimate.
Meanwhile, Ukraine mainly retreats to defense to limit losses from large-scale Russian attacks.
Sputnik on April 11 quoted a warning from a senior official in the Russian Ministry of Defense saying `due to the approaches in military planning, Ukraine’s new counterattack plan will certainly end in complete disaster.`
The official said that Ukraine is looking to fill the army’s huge personnel shortage with a new military mobilization law.
On April 11, the Ukrainian Parliament passed a bill to mobilize new recruits to recruit hundreds of thousands of reinforcements for the army.
President Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukraine planned a new counterattack.
